Jag var på the Armoury dagen det öppnade. Hundra-meter långa köer som väntade på att få komma in, se alla souvenirer och få se på Mathieu Flamini och Alexander Hleb, som stod och väntade längst ned vid tröjrummet för autografer och selfies. Jag fick min selfie med Flamini och Hleb den där dagen, vimlade ut från arenan där det stod ”Emirates” med stora röda bokstäver. Som yrkesarbetande i industrin, så är naturligtvis inte Sir Tim Clark och hans Emirates Airlines från Dubai ingen nyhet. Jag känner företaget väl, har flugit med dem till Dubai, sett alla majestätiska A380s stå på flygplatsen som bara växer. Emirates är en makt i flygindustrin, uppbyggd kring finanser i UAE, snarare än konkurrerande Etihad i Abu Dhabi som bygger sitt på en hel del oljepengar.
Det skrevs ett sponsorkontrakt mellan Arsenal och flygbolaget då. Det har förlängts i omgångar och nu förlängs det igen. Till 2033 och på hemsidan uttalar sig Arsenals Chief Commercial Officer Richard Garlick och Emirates Vd Sir Tim Clark om saken.
